Will this reduce the lag that happens at times or is it simply a move from A to B with nothing expected to change?

Don't think there should be any modifications to the client other than perhaps new addresses to connect/load account and collection based stuff n things. Server side maybe downscaling and optimizations for fewer active players which could lead to some increase in responsiveness for server based actions and processing (not a client optimization which would lead to better load times and such on our end) as well as save them money allowing them to continue providing us with Hex in its current form for a longer period of time without being as much as a burden to maintain. But that's just my best guess.
